The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, on Thursday announced Mrs Haleemat Busari as his running mate for the 2019 gubernatorial election.
Mr. Felix Oboagwina, Director of Media and Publicity of Jimi Agbaje Campaign Organisation (JACO), said that the choice of Busari, a lawyer, followed comprehensive consultations with leaders and stakeholders within and outside the party.
“Mrs Oluwayemisi Haleemat Busari became highly recommended and widely endorsed.
“Stakeholders all agree that without any iota of doubt, the Jimi-Haleemat combination is a winning ticket on every count.
“Busari will be bringing to the joint ticket, her versatility and connections as a professional in corporate governance, as a Muslim activist and as a bona-fide daughter native of Lagos,’’ he said in a statement.
Busari was born in 1964 to the family of the late Ahmed Tijani Shehu Giwa, an Epe born businessman and Vice-President of Jamatul Islamiyya of Nigeria and late Mrs Mujibat Abeni Mopelola Giwa (nee Shonibare), a princess of the Kosoko royal family of Lagos.
Married to Teslim Olatunde Busari (SAN), the law graduate of the University of Lagos is on the board of several blue-chip companies, including Airtel Nigeria and First Bank, Sierra Leone.
Busari was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991 and an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Federation of International Women Lawyers (FIDA).
Also, Reuben Abati, former Senior Special Assistant to Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has been selected as the running mate of Leke Shittu, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
This was made known in a statement signed by Buruji Kashamu on Wednesday.
Gbenga Daniel, former governor of the state, was listed as the senatorial candidate for Ogun East district.
Following a Federal High Court ruling, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had accepted the candidates’ list submitted by the Adebayo Dayo-led faction loyal to Kashamu.
Kashamu asked the public to disregard the statement credited to Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP National Publicity Secretary.
The statement read: “The candidates’ list of the Kashamu backed the Bayo Dayo exco of Ogun PDP has been received and fully acknowledged by INEC for the 2019 elections.
“Prince Leke Shittu and Dr. Reuben Abati were duly acknowledged as the Ogun PDP governorship and deputy governorship candidates respectively.
“Former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, is for the Senate, Ogun East; and all other candidates for the Senatorial, Federal House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly were also accepted and duly acknowledged.
“Any rumour being peddled around by our National Chairman and National Publicity Secretary through a purported press release should be disregarded, as the duo are deliberately acting unlawfully and beyond their powers to which they’ve refused wise counsel to toe the path of rule of law.”
“Oluwayemisi’s life and beliefs are guided by her strong Islamic faith, which has been her foundation all her life,” the statement said.
