Gwagwalada Area Council partners group to empower youths, indigent residents

The chairman Gwagwalada Area Council in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Hon. Adamu Mustapha, in conjunction with All Progressive Grand Alliance Youth Vanguard, has come out with initiatives to empower the youth of the council.

The partnership will ensure that the young people in the area acquire skills that will enable them to be self-reliance and stand on their own instead of seeking for white collar job after graduation from tertiary institutions.

The event took place on the Monday at Phase 3 Primary School Gwagwalada.

According to the organiser of the youth empowerment scheme, who is also an activist, Miss. Omonijo Ronke T. Bilikisu charged women folks to be hardworking and industrious.

She said the program was primarily organised to boost the morale of the youths and women in perspective, stressing that gone are those days when men alone carter for the family needs alone, advising women to key into the initiatives and make use of the skills they acquire during the empowerment training exercise .

Facilitators and partners from different vocational training institutes were present at the event to teach the young people different notable skills that will engendered national economic development.

The empowerment programmes range from musical vocational training, fashion design training to saloon and social work as well as creative writing, software engineering, soap making and tailoring.

The honourable chairman of the area council, represented by his Chief Protocol Officer, Hon. Nuhu Usman, in his welcome address commended the efforts of the convener of the training event, while charging her contemporaries to emulate the laudable initiatives introduced by the upcoming entrepreneur.

He, therefore, challenged the beneficiary of the scheme to be good ambassadors of the Area Council and advised them to make use of the relevant skills they acquired as well as the materials being given to them judiciously.

The Chairman used the auspicious occasion to highlight his administrative achievements, which included the electrification of Imi and Ikwa ward, the construction and dualisation of Zuba fruit Market Road as well as the prompt payment of the area council staff salaries.

Other areas of achievement, according to the chairman, include the Joint Security Task Force (JSTF) initiative introduced by his administration to tackle security challenges in the area.

The JSTF comprises of a combined patrol team of all the security agents in the Area Council with aim of wiping out crime in the council.

The Chairman dispelled allegation leveled against him on the issue of favoritism and marginalisation in the Area Council since the birth of the administration.

The chairman, in his characteristic frankness, went on to disclose that his administration is the best thing that has ever happened to Gwagwlada Area Council since its creation.

On the issue of internally generated revenue, the chairman’s representative told UnityTimes that since the history of Gwagwalada Area Council, no administration has recorded great success like the Hon. Adamu Mustapha administration in the area of boosting the local government council internally generated revenue.

More importantly, the chairman’s  aide applauded the efforts of  his boss  in the area of education, including securing admission for 250 indigenes of  Gwagwalada  Area Council in the University of Abuja, the payment of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) forms for indigent residents of the Area Council.

The occasion had in attendance notable political figure in the council, including the APGA women leaders, Abigail Buter; special assistant to the chairman on women affairs, Hassana Abbas; and the youth chairman Gwagwalada area council, Hon. Umar Inuma  AkA Guzo.
