Command of Ebonyi State Police has said it would deploy over 3500 police officers to ensure the peaceful conduct of the April 22 council election in Ebonyi State.
The Commissioner of Police, Titus Lamorde during a meeting with various political parties said enough police would be deployed for the election.
The meeting held at the officer’s mess had in attendance other security chiefs in the state.
Lamorde said he would not condone violence during the election just as what played out during the Peoples’ Democratic Party(PDP) primaries in the state.
“The purpose of the meeting is in respect of the forthcoming local government election on April 22. There is need for us to parley together to ensure success and hitch free election.
“I want you to appeal to your supporters to be law abiding during the election. We have been meeting with security agencies for the past three weeks to ensure peaceful conduct of the election. People should work for the peace and development of the state, and not as individual party.
“During the election, there will be restriction of movement from 7am-4pm. We are going to adhere strictly to that.
“People should vote peacefully and go back to their homes without fomenting trouble. Violence does not add anything to the society. I believe what happened during the primaries would not repeat itself.
“I wish to inform those who will ferment trouble that the law will not take it easily. You can go to court and seek redress if you are aggrieved”, he noted.
In a remark, the Ebonyi State Chairman of Labour Party, Mr. Sabastine Obia, who thanked the police for organising the meeting, appealed to the police commissioner to warn his men against monetary inducement by the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
