Commuters travelling along the Kaduna-Abuja express way have renewed their call to the federal government as a matter
of urgent national importance to rehabilitate the highway to ease the difficulty being experienced by travellers.
UnityTimes findings on Wednesday, after a visit, revealed that the road has turned nightmare to commuters.
This is coming on the heels of the expected closure of the Abuja International Airport for runway rehabilitation by the Federal Government.
To compound the issue, there was a fatal accident that occurred on the road a fortnight ago.
They argued that the importance of the Abuja-Kaduna expressway cannot be overemphasized, considering the socio-economic contribution of the highway to Nigeria Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Some of the commuters added that the road serves as a link between the North and South.
It would be recalled that the Abuja –Kaduna federal highway project contract was meant to be funded by the money realized from the former Subsidy Reinvestment Programme under the former President Goodluck Jonathan administration.
However, the government agency responsible for the handling of the road abandoned the project due to lack of political will.
It is worthy to note that many distinguished personalities and future leaders had lost their lives on the road.
Since Nigeria returned to democratic structure 1999, successive governments had road, gulping billions of naira from the nation treasury every fiscal year without result.
