The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his continued support for the Nigerian
Army which he said encouraged his men to develop their capacity to tackle the challenges confronting them through indigenous and innovative ways to make Nigeria overcome its security challenges.
The army chief made the commendation at the 1st Nigerian Army Research and Innovation Summit with the theme: “Developing Synergy With
Indigenous Institutions for Enhanced Capacity in the Nigerian Army” held at the Nigerian Army Resource Center. He said the army will
leverage on the gains of the summit towards self-sufficiency in its continuous efforts to build a “professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles.”
The summit which was attended by heads of paramilitary and security agencies, heads of parastatals, academia, captains of industries and
representatives of research institutions recognized the compelling need for effective research and innovation to enhance military capacity while also noting that lack of legislative backing for the National Policy on Research, Science and Technology Innovation in Nigeria is impending the progress of research efforts.
