Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, on Monday made an unscheduled visite to over 500 victims of meningitis in various hospitals in the state.
The governor was in company of some top government officials and members of the state’s Meningitis Control Committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi,
The governor interacted with individual patients, sympathised with their conditions and encouraged them during the visit to no less than 10 hospitals across the state.
Yari assured the meningitis victims that, the state government has put adequate provision in place for their treatment and also stressed that his administration would continue to handle such emergency cases free of charge.
The governor who visited about 10 hospitals, ordered immediate supply of mattresses to all the centres on seeing the way many of the patients were lying on only mats spread on sand.
He warned that anyone caught selling drugs meant for the treatment of the patients would face severe punishment.
He also instructed that the chairman of the committee brief him regularly on its activities, most especially, on why the patients who are receiving treatments at Gusau, Kaura-Namoda, Shinkafi, Moriki and Talata-Mafara hospitals and others, on how they had to be buy drugs or sleeping on the ground.
