Assembly Threatens To Arrest Ex-Commissioner Over Alleged Fund Embezzlement

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly, has said it will issue warrant of arrest on the former Commissioner for Finance in the state, Barr Timothy Odaa if he fails to appear before the House of Assembly Committee on Public Account Tuesday next week.

Barrister Odaa is facing allegation of financial recklessness and embezzlement of state funds during the immediate past administration of Chief Martin Elechi.

The threat to arrest him followed repeated refusal of the former Chairman Forum of Commissioners of Finance in the country to honour invitation to appear before the House to clarify some issues.

An earlier directive to summon him was issued by Speaker of the Assembly, Chief Francis Nwifuru during plenary session at the state House of Assembly complex, Abakaliki.

This followed the report of the House Chairman on Public Account, Chief Onu Nwonye who was among the joint committee constituted by the House to Audit the financial report of the state government for the year ending 31st December, 2014.

According to Chief Onu Nwonye, the former Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, declined several invitations from the joint committee to clarify some items contained in financial document.

As a result, the Speaker directed Clerk of the House to convey a letter of invitation for the former Commissioner to appear before the House or face warrant of arrest.
