Ebonyi State government has warned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA’s) in the state against rejection of corps members posted to them on frivolous excuses.
Chief David Umahi gave the warning during the terminal parade/ closing ceremony of the 2017 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 orientation of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) at its permanent orientation camp in Afikpo.
Umahi represented by the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Charlse Akpuenika directed the MDA’s to accept the services of corps members posted to them and not offer any excuse for their rejection.
“The government has adopted a policy of deploying corps members more to schools than MDA’s, in order to effectively render their services to the state as employers in the private sector are hereby encouraged to accept the services of these young and vibrant Nigeria youths.
The governor cautioned the corps members against unnecessary and unauthorized journeys which in the past have resulted in unpleasant consequences for them.
“Your lives are very precious to government and your families especially considering the huge capital outlay invested in you since childhood as you should collaborate with my administration to improve the living standard of the people by embarking on viable community development projects.
He urged them to shun indiscipline and corruption as they are cankerworms which has held Nigeria down over the years and brought her untold hardship and underdevelopment.
State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Regina Iluebbey, said that the corps members showed a high sense of discipline, hardwork, commitment, loyalty and patriotism throughout their stay on camp.
“This is an indication that with appropriate character moulding and requisite orientation, educated Nigerian youths are ready to lead the effort to restore the country’s lost dignity and pride in the comity of nations.
She noted that the corps members within the course of the three weeks camping exercise, participated in all camp activities such as drills, man ‘o’ war activities, skills acquisition, training, professional orientation among others,” she said.
“The corps members have been posted to all LGA of the state except Ishiellu where we are yet to get the state government’s clearance to post corps members since the 2008 Ezza/ Ezillo communal crisis.
Fatima Dago, a Corps Member from Yobe noted that she will contribute in the development of Ebonyi state through community empowerment it was her first time of visiting the south east zone of the country.
