Christmas is barely a week from now and everyone in Abuja works toward the happy celebration of the season even as preparations intensifies. Nigerians in Abuja the federal capital territory expresses discomfort at their inability to make appropriate arrangement for the celebration.
Mrs. Chris Olamide Speaking with us on street interview expressed pressure on her inability to get the necessary comestibles and other related items for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. “I have not prepared for anything; as a matter of fact I have not been to the market to purchase anything in in respect to Xmas”.
BUT DO YOU NORMALLY BUY XMAS THINGS THIS LATE KNOWING FULLY WELL THAT XMAS IS NEXT WEEK SUNDAY?
Frankly speaking, situation is not friendly to Nigerians and the recession on ground powers inflation thereby resulting to a whole lot of stress as salaries are yet to be paid.
WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR THE XMAS CELEBRATION?
I want God to visit Nigeria that this situation may be put to an end, more also to increase in faith and commitment in serving God.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR ACTIVITIES DURING THE CELEBRATION?
I will go to church on that day of Christmas, visit friends and many others.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR CO CHRISTIANS TOWARD THE CELEBRATION?
We should show love to each other either in kind or otherwise because Christmas is all about showing love to mankind. We should also encourage one another as well as praying for each other and the country at large.
Ugoze Obina who spoke with us also indicated lack of money to make preparations toward the celebration stating that she is broke and would not be travelling to the village this time around as situation becomes critical ” we appreciate God for making us see Xmas in anticipation but the irony of the entire issue is absence of fund to power Xmas expenses that would have resulted to making the celebration more colourful. It’s that obvious that I will not be travelling because people in the village would be expecting money on arrival and other miscellaneous expenses, as such I just have to run for that by remaining here in Abuja for the celebration.
Mrs. Mirabakitchen who owns a restaurant behind unity house Area 11 Garki Abuja also spoke with us on the spirit of Xmas. She lamented fervently on the absence of money. “My business is not moving as expected and this also metamorphoses to a negative impact on Xmas arrangement. And it’s quite funny that MMM have been stopped.
My customers have being doing it and have being getting money to come and purchase food but since the announcement of the freeze, the rate of patronage diminishes. Now some persons eat at home while some don’t even eat at all and some come to office with food and all these acts are as a result of recession. Now I can’t even buy anything, even as a bottle of oil that was sold last year for 200 is now sold for 800 naira.
But we appreciate God for the live.”
Christmas celebration which is the birth of Jesus Christ is assumed to be celebrated with financial cautiousness as the economy of the country goes down beyond the expectations of people. The cost of living is already high, the cost of items in the market have skyrocket in increase, high cost of transportation and even high rate of scam in the country and as such cautiousness should be taken during and even after the celebration.
